BMC is looking for an educated, experienced, skilled and inspirational Imam on a full-time basis to undertake the duties as an Imam of BMC/Ghousia Masjid. Applicants must be a charismatic person who has Islamic knowledge, sound communication and leadership skills to take the responsibilities of the religious, community and educational affairs of BMC.

The successful candidate will be responsible for devising and implementing systems and procedures for all the responsibilities described below. He, therefore, needs to be flexible in both managing the weekly hours and approaches to carry out the duties effectively and efficiently. The candidate will be required to raise the profile of both BMC and the Muslim communities it serves. The candidate will be expected to be an active member of the executive team and act as a spiritual guide and representative of the congregation. There is an expectation on the Imam to establish himself by leading Islamic activities and worship as well as to generate new ideas and initiatives. He will be expected to facilitate a variety of activities and events to promote religious awareness and Islamic values among adults, youth and the wider community. Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the daily prayers and deliver the Friday sermons (arrive 15 minutes before Jam’ah)
  • Conduct all other prayers as required such as Eid, Taraweeh and funeral prayers.
  • To coordinate and deliver the Taraweeh prayers during Ramadan and formulate a wider programme of activities throughout Ramadan, targeting all ages.
  • Conduct matrimonial services including marriages and divorce.
  • Develop and implement adult and youth educational classes and extracurricular activities.
  • Tackle poverty, health, and social inequalities and Islamophobia
  • Design and deliver special classes for new Muslims.
  • Provide weekly Islamic classes.
  • Offer families, youth, reverts counselling and guidance as needed.
  • Work with the BMC Executive Team on fundraising programmes.
  • Participate in interfaith activities.
  • Act as a religious ambassador and BMC representative at community events and functions.
  • To coordinate visits to the Masjid for organised groups such as schools, colleges, universities, voluntary, community and faith groups.
  • Carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required.
